Orange City Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Neighbor

Posted

A man in Orange City is in custody after allegedly shooting and injuring his neighbor on Wednesday. The suspect is 42-year-old John David Wilson. As of Thursday he's being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond.

The incident took place at the Luna Sands RV Resort shortly before 5:00 am on Wednesday, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to respond to a shooting, and upon arrival discovered a 32-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The victim apparently told deputies that he'd been shot by a neighbor, leading deputies to the camper occupied by Wilson. He was ordered to exit the camper, and reportedly complied with police orders without incident.

A witness account of the shooting was also provided by the VSO: around 4:30 am Wilson was apparently outside his camper shouting, when the victim stepped out of his camper to go to the gym before he went to work. The witness is said to have heard Wilson yell "get back inside your house or you're dead", twice. The victim reportedly responded "are you talking to me?" Then, Wilson reportedly counted down from three and then began firing at the victim.

The victim is said to have also been armed with a handgun, and he returned fire as he was being shot at. Wilson was not hit by any gunfire, and the victim was described as having then retreated back into his home. When deputies investigated, they found evidence which they say matches this witness account of the story.

The victim was hospitalized for the buckshot that'd hit his shoulder, a non-life-threatening injury. Wilson has been in jail since early Wednesday afternoon, and this is so far his first booking in Volusia County.
